XFL drops fresh QB comparison feat. Derek Carr, Russell Wilson and Tom Brady after slow Week 1 opening

Week 1 of the XFL season is on the books and there were some impressive offenses with some solid quarterback play. The quarterbacks drew some solid comparisons from sportscaster and podcaster Josh Lewin.

Lewin looked at the completion percentage of signal-callers in the league and compared them to the likes of some NFL quarterbacks.

Lewin said:

"The league completion percentage in Week 1 was 64.8%. NFL quarterbacks with career completion percentages in the 64-65 range include Philip Rivers, Tony Romo, Ben Rothlisberger, Steve Young, Derek Carr, Russell Wilson, and Tom Brady. (Just having fun with numbers here, but after one week, XFL QB’s lead Brady, 64.8-64.3.)"

VP/Player Personnel Doug Whaley noted that the play from under center was excellent in Week 1.

Whaley said:

“We hit our marks and the football's only going to get better when these teams keep playing and get more adaptive. To have a quarterback play at this level of a spring league already this good, is terrific. The mechanics of everything seem to be checking out fine already. I think everyone is thrilled with how this has all begun.”

One quarterback who has excelled is former University of Alabama star AJ McCarron of the St. Louis Battlehawks.

AJ McCarron impresses in Week 1 of the XFL

McCarron, who played in 16 games over the course of his six seasons in the NFL, has thrown for 374 yards and three touchdowns thus far this season. His 64.5 completion percentage is one of the best in the league. Besides McCarron, another former NFL quarterback has thrived in the league.

Ben DiNucci is the starting quarterback for the Seattle Sea Dragons and leads the league in passing yards with 478 yards. DiNucci was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 draft, starting one game for the franchise.

McCarron and DiNucci's NFL careers likely won't compare with Brady or Wilson, but they could certainly make it big in this XFL season.
