Khabib "The Eagle" Nurmagomedov is a former UFC Lightweight Champion with a professional MMA record of 29 wins and 0 losses. Khabib is a black belt in judo and holds the record for the longest UFC lightweight championship reign.
Khabib Nurmagomedov started his combat sports training under the tutelage of his father at 8 years of age. He began training at a high level in wrestling by age 12, judo at age 15, and combat sambo by age 17.
Nurmagomedov won Combat Sambo's WCSF World Championship in 2009 and 2010 while fighting in MMA. He made his MMA debut in 2008 at CSFU: Champions League against Vusal Bayramov. The Russian submitted Vusal in the first round via submission. He next entered the Pakrtation Artium Cup, with all his victories coming via unanimous decision.
He moved to welterweight and won the Tsumada Fighting Championship 3 Tournament.
Nurmagomedov won his next title at Golden Fist And M-1 before signing with ProFC. He went 6-0 in the promotion with the distinction of finishing every opponent inside the first round. He left ProFC in 2011 to join the UFC.
Khabib Nurmagomedov came into the UFC with a perfect record of 16-0 and went on to build his record by winning every fight in the octagon with ease. He beat some of the best UFC fighters in the promotion, including Michael Johnson, Rafael Dos Anjos, and Conor McGregor.
Khabib Nurmagodemov faced Al Iaquinta on UFC 223 for the vacant UFC lightweight belt after Tony Ferguson sustained a knee injury and Max Holloway was declared unfit by the New York State Athletic Commission. 'The Eagle' dominated Iaquinta in the 5-round fight and won via unanimous decision.
Conor McGregor fought Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. This would be Conor's return to the octagon after two years and would see both fighters fight for the UFC lightweight championship. Nurmagomedov would dominate McGregor on the ground in the first two rounds, before opting to stand with the Irishman in the third. The fight ended in the fourth when the Russian put Mcgregor in a neck-crank, forcing 'The Notorious' to tap.
Khabib Nurmagomedov returned to the octagon at UFC 242 to face interim champion Dustin Poirier to unify the UFC lightweight championship. Nurmagomedov would dominate Poirier and control him on the ground for close to nine minutes. He sealed the victory in the third round via a rear-naked choke submission to retain the championship.
Khabib Nurmagomedov fought interim champion Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 to unify the UFC lightweight championship. He lost the first round on the judge's scorecard but choked out Gaethje in the second round with a mounted triangle choke. 'The Eagle' announced his retirement from MMA in the post-fight interview.
