Matt Renshaw Biography

Born on 28 March 1996, Matt Renshaw is an emerging Australian cricketer. The left-handed batsman is globally known for his classy defensive techniques.

Renshaw has played for Marylebone Cricket Club Young Cricketers, Queensland, National Performance Squad and Brisbane Heat, and is a very popular face of the Australian domestic arena.

Background

Born in Yorkshire, his family moved to New Zealand when he was seven and finally to Australia when he was ten. Renshaw was a part of the Australian Under-19 squad that toured Sri Lanka in October 2014, giving a glimpse of his ability with an innings of 73 on his one-day debut in Colombo.

In the 2015-16 season, Matt emerged as Queensland's leading run scorer in the Sheffield Shield. He scored 738 runs at an average of 43.41, which included his mammoth 170 in subtle conditions. This made him the youngest Queensland batsman to score a century in the history of the Shield.

Debut

At the age of 20, Renshaw was added in the Australian test squad and he played his first international match in 2016 against South Africa.

He scored 10 runs in the first innings and remained unbeaten on 34 in the second as Australia chased a small target of 127 runs.

Rise to Glory

He scored an impressive 71 against Pakistan at the Gabba in the seaming conditions in his second Test in 2017. In the test at the SCG, he batted throughout the first day to score his maiden Test century, eventually getting out on 184 runs. It was the highest test score by an Australian player at his age.

He again proved himself in the foreign tour of India in February-March 2017 notching up half-centuries in the two opening tests of the series.
