Early Life and Career
Sergei Pavlovich was born in 1992 in Orlovsky, Rostov Oblast, and began training in Greco-Roman wrestling at the age of five under coach Alexander Fedorovich Aloyan. He continued wrestling until 11th grade and then, after serving in the army, started practicing army hand-to-hand fighting and combat sambo.
In 2014, he began his professional MMA career under Fight Nights Global promotion and won all 12 fights without a single defeat. On June 2, 2017, he won the heavyweight title by unanimous decision in a fight against Mikhail Mokhnatkin. Later, on November 19, 2017, he defended his heavyweight title in a fight against Kirill Sidelnikov.
Sergei Pavlovich’s Career in UFC
Sergei Pavlovich made his debut in the UFC on November 24, 2018, at UFC Fight Night 141, against Alistair Overeem. Unfortunately, he lost the fight via TKO in the first round. However, he won his next fight against Marcelo Golm on April 20, 2019, at UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Oleinik, via knockout, earning himself a Performance of the Night award. Pavlovich also won his fight against Maurice Greene on October 26, 2019, at UFC Fight Night 162, via knockout in the first round.
Pavlovich was scheduled to fight Ciryl Gane on August 8, 2020, at UFC Fight Night 174 but had to withdraw due to an injury. Similarly, he withdrew from a fight against Tom Aspinall on September 4, 2021, due to visa issues. Pavlovich was also expected to fight Tanner Boser on December 4, 2021, at UFC on ESPN 31, but the bout was canceled due to travel issues.
On March 19, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 204, Pavlovich faced Shamil Abdurakhimov and won via technical knockout in the first round, receiving the Performance of the Night award. He also won his next fight against Derrick Lewis on July 30, 2022, at UFC 277, via TKO in under a minute, though the stoppage was deemed controversial.
Pavlovich fought Tai Tuivasa on December 3, 2022, at UFC on ESPN 42, and won the fight via KO in under a minute, earning himself another Performance of the Night award.
Pavlovich continued his 6-fight knockout streak after defeating Curtis Blaydes at UFC Fight Night 222 on April 22, 2023, via a knockout in the first round.
