Draymond Green explains why LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan: “Talent at Apple is way better than talent working at Apple in ‘91”

Golden State Warriors All-Star forward Draymond Green made headlines recently when he discussed his list of the greatest players of all time. During an episode of Uninterrupted's "Throwing Bones," Green said that he believes LA Lakers star forward LeBron James is the GOAT.

Green then explained why he has James over NBA legend Michael Jordan, who is considered the GOAT by the majority of NBA fans.

Green initially said that choosing LeBron James has a lot to do with James’ sustained dominance since he was drafted in 2003:

"Bron started in '03. By 2005, Bron was the best player in the NBA. In 2020, he was still the best player in the NBA. He was the best player in the NBA no matter what the game did."

Green then explained how the game has continually evolved since James was drafted, but it hasn’t affected his greatness:

“The game went from two slugs, like two big men, to like, a stretch four big man, back to two big men, to no big men, and he's been the best no matter what."

Draymond Green then reasoned that LeBron James has faced tougher competition in the NBA Finals than Michael Jordan did:

“When you look at the teams that Bron has carried to championships or carried to the finals. M.J. didn't beat the greatest team ever assembled, nor did he run up against the greatest team ever assembled every year."

Later on, Green raved about James’ skillset, which he believes to be the most well-rounded skillset in NBA history:

“You look at the skillset that Bron has. There's nobody that has ever played the game of basketball that can do what LeBron James does on a basketball court. Nobody."

Green then continued to go in-depth about how impressive James’ career has been:

“You all want to be like Mike, but what LeBron has been able to do and how he can control a game, like, to do it this long. M.J. retired. This s*** is grueling. Going to the Finals year after year after year, Bron went to eight or nine straight. M.J. took a break right in the heat of that s***.
“Bron didn't take a break, you know what he did? He went again and again and again again. And again. So for me, that's why it's Bron over M.J. for me."

Finally, Green added that the talent in the modern NBA is much improved. He compared it to the improvement in the talent level of Apple:

“And on top of that, the talent nowadays is way better. And I'm sure one of the old f**** gonna say 'You're out of your mind' blah blah blah. The talent is way better, just like the talent at Apple is way better than the talent that was working at Apple in 1991."

The GOAT conversation will always be up for debate, but Draymond Green definitely laid out a pretty compelling and logical argument for his pick.

Draymond Green’s top five players of all-time list

As for Draymond Green’s full top five players on the all-time list, he still had Michael Jordan second after LeBron James. Jordan was followed by LA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant in third. Green then had a bit of bias by listing his own superstar teammate Steph Curry in fourth. Finally, Green concluded his list with arguably the most dominant big man in NBA history, Shaquille O'Neal, in fifth.

"My top 5 is LJ 1, MJ 2, Kobe 3, Steph 4, Shaq 5,” Green said.

Once again, it’s all subjective, but it’s hard to argue against the individual greatness of any of Draymond Green’s picks.
