Could Carmelo Anthony swap the Houston Rockets for the Philadelphia 76ers?

The Philadelphia 76ers are currently the fourth seeds in the Eastern Conference, after making an impressive 20-11 start to the season. The Sixers impressive start to the season has been fueled by the dominant young duo of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, and the team's fanbase finally has a roster to get behind after years of tanking.

Despite the promising start, the Sixers are aware that it will be tough to beat both the Celtics and Raptors this season. Due to this, the Philadelphia team has already completed a blockbuster trade for All-Star Jimmy Butler, and more acquisitions are set to follow. So here are three players that could join the Philadephia 76ers this week.

#3 Carmelo Anthony

While Carmelo Anthony's stay in Houston Rockets lasted just 10 games, it still marked a major turning point in the 10-time All-Star's career. After his well-documented refusal to come off the bench in Oklahoma City, Melo finally accepted a reserve unit role in Houston. Anthony had never appeared as part of a second unit before this, and it showed that Anthony was finally willing to swallow his pride in order to prolong his NBA career.

If Melo is once again willing to accept a role leading from the bench then the Philadelphia 76ers shouldn't hesitate to make a move, and rumours this week have suggested that the organization is giving serious thought to bringing the 34-year-old on board.

In his brief time in a Rockets uniform, Anthony averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds, and his addition would give the Sixers much needed depth on the bench. Ultimately, Anthony became available for trade on the 15th, and with the Houston Rockets actively looking to get rid of the veteran, a move could be quickly completed.

#2 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Caldwell-Pope signed a new one-year deal with the Los Angles Lakers over the summer, although he has since lost his starting place, as Luke Walton has preferred to start the team's young core alongside LeBron James. The former Pistons man is averaging just 21.6 minutes per game from the bench, and his points-per-game total has fallen to a near career-low of 8.7.

Despite this, Caldwell-Pope has scored at least 10 points in 7 of his last 9 games, and he would represent a major upgrade on the Sixers current reserve unit. The Lakers also seem desperate to do a deal, as the team was reportedly looking to include the 25-year-old in a trade for the Phoenix Suns Trevor Ariza. If the 76ers can find a way to take on Caldwell-Pope's $12 million contract, then a deal will be completed quickly.

#1 Channing Frye

While Channing Frye is not the most exciting player, there is no doubting that the veteran would be a great addition to the Sixers bench. The 35-year-old can still contribute on the court, and his experience would also be an asset to the team's young roster.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently emptying their squad in favor of draft picks, and veteran players such as Kyle Korver, and George Hood have already been traded away in the last few weeks. Ultimately, Fyre is available on a minimum contract, and his ability to play at both power forward and center make him a player that the Sixers should look to acquire.
