Chris Paul still can't believe Carmelo Anthony remains a free agent almost halfway through the 2022-23 NBA season. Anthony is without a team despite averaging 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists last season off the bench for the LA Lakers.
With the Phoenix Suns in New York to face the Knicks on Monday, Paul was asked about one of his best friends. He told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News that Anthony deserves to continue playing in the league. He also wants him to finish his career on his own terms.
"Melo is one of the best to ever to play the game. I'm obviously biased and hope he's in the league soon. Because somebody of that caliber, with that ability, with the heart that he has, and the stuff he's done for the game. He should be able to walk off the court when he's ready."
Carmelo Anthony had a productive campaign last season despite turning 38 years old last May. Anthony remains quiet about his future, but continues to work out in the New York area. He recently attended a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden and received cheers from the crowd
Stefan Bondy also reported that the Knicks have no plans to sign Anthony to a contract. But if Anthony decides to retire, Bondy opined that it's possible for him to sign a one-day contract with the Knicks before leaving the game for good.

Carmelo Anthony at peace on whatever happens next
Carmelo Anthony was asked about his future during a televised game that featured his son Kiyan going up against LeBron James' sons Bronny and Bryce. Anthony told ESPN's Malika Andrews that he's at peace with whatever happens next for his career:
"I love the game. I realize there's a lot of things that's not in my control. So I can sit back and let it play out, and whatever it’s going to be, it's going to be and I accept that. I'm at peace with that.
"I get to watch my kids, get to watch my son play, train him, be around him, come to his games. These are the things for a long time I didn't have a chance to do, so now I can be that father and the man that I need to be."
Carmelo Anthony had one hell of a career in the NBA, playing for six different teams. Anthony was a 10-time All-Star and a one-time scoring champion. He has also been named one of the 75 greatest players in league history. He's number nine in the NBA's all-time scoring list with 28,289 points.
