Former NBA player Anthony Morrow arrested on kidnapping, assault charges: All you need to know

Anthony Morrow is a former NBA player who hasn't played in the league since 2017. Despite having a long career and being a decent backup, Morrow's life off the court hasn't gone as well.

The former 3-point specialist was arrested on kidnapping and assault charges. While the news of Morrow's arrest was recently revealed, the incident happened on February 10 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 6-foot-5 guard was released two days later.

After the conclusion of his playing career, Morrow joined the OKC Thunder as a staff member. However, he most likely sealed his basketball career with the latest incident.

Anthony Morrow was arrested on assault charges, but was released two days later

Morrow last served as the Lifestyle Services and Engagement Associate for the Oklahoma City Thunder. This comes as no surprise considering that he spent three years in Oklahoma, having some of the best years of his career there.

The former NBA player allegedly strangled the victim and also hit her multiple times with his fist. The victim was a woman he was dating at the time, although her name hasn't been revealed yet.

The victim had scratches on her neck, a cut lip and abrasions on her forehead. However, the former NBA player has denied these allegations and believes that he's innocent.

"He [Anthony] has faith in our justice system and has every confidence that a review of the evidence will reveal that he is not guilty,” Morrow’s lawyer said.

Morrow is facing charges of assault by stragulation, communicating threats and even second-degree kidnapping. The former NBA player was released on a $15,000 bail, but will face legal consequences if found guilty.

Morrow played for seven NBA teams in his career

Anthony Morrow was named the North Carolina Mr. Basketball in 2004. He was a standout basketball player who joined Georgia Tech, but went undrafted in 2008.

However, the guard was signed by the Golden State Warriors, where he spent the first two years of his professional career, averaging 11.6 points on 46.0% shooting from the 3-point line.

After the Warriors, Anthony Morrow the New Jersey Nets for two seasons and also had two brief stints with the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks. After his tenure with the New Orleans Pelicans, the 6-foot-5 guard joined the OKC Thunder, a team he played 182 games for.

He last played for the Chicago Bulls in the 2016-17 season. He also signed with the Portland Trail Blazers, but after five preseason games, the guard was waived.
