Victor Wembanyama is coming off one of the best seasons for an NBA rookie, where he looked to be only scratching the surface of his true potential. Aside from his offensive talent, he was also incredible on the defensive end. Despite not winning last year's Defensive Player of the Year voting, he received the most number of votes from ESPN experts for next year's award, which resulted in strong fan reactions.
The San Antonio Spurs center earned 76 points with four-time DPOY winner Rudy Gobert behind him with 29 points. In third place is Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo with 26 points, while Anthony Davis is in fourth place with 14 points.

"NBA are glazing that French toothpick Wemby."
Some fans are already envisioning Victor Wembanyama securing his first DPOY and doing it in just his sophomore season.
"He will win it for sure! He should've won it last year. Wemby an alien," the fan posted.
"Wemby is a lock. The NBA is going to want to give him as many accolades early as possible," the fan posted.
However, some were not too fond of his high placement on the list. While his defensive skills are elite, the fans highlighted that the Spurs finished 14th in the Western Conference standings and his 1-2 record against OKC Thunder's Chet Holmgren.
"Just don't ask folks what happened to Wembanyama the three times he saw Chet," the fan posted.
"If the Spurs win 35 games or less games and they give it to Wemby, it will be robbed. You can't give a player that type of award if his defense can't impact the winning side. Last year the same, he was a runner up only because of marketing," the fan posted.
Wembanyama is heading into the 2024-25 campaign with high expectations from fans and analysts due to what he was able to showcase on the court last season.
Victor Wembanyama had a friendly jab at Rudy Gobert and the DPOY award
Before Rudy Gobert secured his fourth DPOY award, Victor Wembanyama had a friendly jab directed at him, as per French journalist Theo Quintard.
"I know that Rudy [Gobert] has a very good chance of winning it this year, and it would be deserved. Let him win it now, because after that it's no longer his turn," Wembanyama said.
Wembanyama's two-way brilliance was in full display last season from his ability to effectively guard in open spaces to being a solid rim protector for the San Antonio Spurs. His confidence has never been in question, which was evident in his strong performances on the court.
