NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson

Allen Iverson is one of the greatest and most beloved players to ever play the game of basketball. The NBA Hall of Famer has a case for the greatest pound-for-pound player of all time, as he was considered undersized throughout his career.

Iverson, who played the shooting guard position, stood at just 6'0 while weighing just 165 pounds. Not only was he undersized for his position, but also smaller than most NBA point guards. The Philadelphia 76ers legend finished his career averaging 26.7 points per game, the fifth-highest total of any player that has retired.

Michael Jordan, who also played the shooting guard position, is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time. Jordan stood at 6'6 while weighing 215 pounds, giving him a six-inch height advantage and a 50-pound weight advantage over Iverson.

Only one shooting guard, Kobe Bryant, is viewed at a level close to Jordan. Bryant is widely regarded as one of the top-three players in NBA history. Like his idol, Bryant stood at 6'6 and weighed 215 pounds.

George Gervin and David Thompson are two notable shooting guards. Gervin stood at 6'7, while Thompson stood at 6'4. Clyde Drexler, Reggie Miller, Ray Allen, Dwyane Wade, and James Harden all saw their careers overlap with Iverson. Drexler and Miller stood at 6'7, while Allen and Harden are both listed at 6'5. Wade came in the smallest of the group at 6'4. However, he still possessed a four-inch height advantage over Iverson.

While Iverson has had a legendary career, many have wondered how much greater he could have been if he had been the same height as some of the other great shooting guards.

Inside Allen Iverson's impact on the game of basketball

Allen Iverson was much more than a Hall of Fame player throughout his career. While he was consistently among the best players on the planet, Iverson's impact transcended the game itself. The 11-time All-Star became a cultural icon as he has inspired many modern stars.

Cornrows, tattoos, sleeves, and crossovers are common in today's game. This is largely due to Iverson, as he is widely attributed with bringing each to the game. Iverson was a well-deserved first-ballot Hall of Famer. Despite being just 6'0, he is tied for scoring the third-most titles in NBA history with four, trailing only Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.
