"I don’t want him on my roster": D'Angelo Russell's huddle snub makes Jay Williams explode

Minnesota Timberwolves v Los Angeles Lakers
Jay Williams slammed D'Angelo Russell for not sticking with his team during Game 3 loss

D'Angelo Russell and the LA Lakers are on the verge of getting swept by the Denver Nuggets in the opening round of the NBA playoffs. After being swept by the Nuggets in the Conference Finals last season, the Lakers are down 3-0 in the series.

While Russell scored zero points in the Lakers’ defeat in Game 3, something else became his highlight. He was seen sitting away from the team huddle during a timeout. Former NBA player Jay Williams slammed the Lakers player for not sticking up with his team when it was going through an adversary.

The former Chicago Bulls player said he wouldn’t want Russell on his team if he were on the Lakers.

“When you have zero point in a ball game, I don’t know if he is on a cell phone … if he is eating snacks, I don’t know what the hell it is … for D'Angelo Russell to check out of the game that way and not even being involved in a team huddle … I don’t want him on my roster, I don’t want him on my team,” said Williams.

Williams also pointed out that while Russell has been performing below average on defense, he has been a defensive liability for the Lakers. Williams added that sitting on the chair away from the huddle was selfish on Russell's part.

Williams is not far from the impact Russell’s actions might have on the Lakers’ energy. Watching a player not stick with his team when faced with an adversary indirectly impacts the team's camaraderie.

Russell was one of the players consistent in the Lakers' trade talk before the trade deadline. In light of his actions in Game 3, there are questions about his future in Los Angeles.

D'Angelo Russell goes scoreless in Lakers Game 3 loss to Nuggets

D'Angelo Russell failed to put a point on the scoreboard in the Lakers' Game 3 loss to the Nuggets. He shot 0-of-7 from the field and 0-of-6 from the 3-point line in 24 minutes.

The Lakers star has been the starting point guard for the Lakers in this series. However, Russell has struggled in this series, failing to score and taking care of the ball. He has been a defensive liability and it’s not even a question.

After going 6-of-20 from the field in Game 1, Russell had an excellent Game 2. He shot 8-of-16 from the field and 7-of-11 from behind the arc. However, what remained consistent during those two games was the Lakers outscored the Nuggets when Russell wasn’t on the floor.

What transpired with Russell in Game 3 raises questions about his future with the Lakers. There is a high chance that Russell will be moved this offseason.
