Trey Murphy III has yet to appear in a game this season, but that all could change on Monday night. All signs point to him making his debut for the New Orleans Pelicans in their matchup with the Brooklyn Nets.
Murphy was sidelined to start the year due to a hamstring injury. Over the weekend, NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that the Pelicans forward has targeted this game for his return. Looking at Monday's injury report, Murphy has been upgraded to probable.
Getting Trey Murphy back is huge for the Pelicans, as their roster has been ravished by injuries. Among those sidelined right now include Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum, Herb Jones and Dejounte Murray.

Just before this season began, the Pelicans locked down Murphy to be a key member of their core moving forward. The 6-foot-8 forward agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension worth $112 million.
Since being drafted 17th overall in 2021, Murphy has become a productive 3-and-D forward in the NBA. The 24-year-old appeared in 57 games last season and averaged 14.8 points while shooting 38.0% from beyond the arc on high volume.
It looks like the Pelicans will be getting some much-needed reinforcements when they take on the Nets Monday night. The possible return of Murphy should aid Brandon Ingram as he tries to lead the charge for the shorthanded New Orleans squad.
Trey Murphy III recently seen working on his 3-point shot
While he hasn't played in a game yet this season, Trey Murphy III looks ready to hit the floor for the New Orleans Pelicans. Before their last game, he was seen working on a key area of his game.
On Friday night, the Pelicans hit the road to take on the Orlando Magic. Even though he was not playing, Murphy was still on the floor pregame getting shots up with his teammates. During his time on the floor, he connected on an array of deep threes.
With the roster being so depleted right now, the Pelicans are going to need Murphy to hit the ground running. They'll need all the production they can get as they attempt to stay afloat. Heading into Monday's game, the Pelicans are in 13th place in the West and on the wrong end of a four-game losing streak.
One thing New Orleans has going for them is that Trey Murphy has shown he can increase his production when given the chance. In the 23 games he started last season, the young forward averaged 16.3 points and shot just under 40% from deep.
