Julius Randle injury update: Shams Charania gives latest update on Knicks’ star ankle sprain

Minnesota Timberwolves v New York Knicks
Julius Randle to miss the final weeks of the regular season

New York Knicks star Julius Randle will reportedly miss at least two weeks as he deals with a left ankle sprain. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported earlier Thursday that the All-Star forward will miss the remaining games for the Knicks.

Randle is the last star not to miss a game this season. So far, he has suited up for 77 games and made a serious impact on how the team has performed. The two-time All-Star is averaging 25.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists while shooting 45.9%, including 34.3% of his three-pointers.

The Knicks (44-33), who are fifth in the Eastern Conference, will likely face the Cleveland Cavaliers as their first-round matchup in the playoffs. New York has already improved by seven wins from last season and is enjoying its best season since winning 54 games in 2012-13.

The New York Knicks need Julius Randle in the playoffs

The 2023 playoffs are right around the corner and the Knicks will probably start the first round with a short-handed squad. Julius Randle is expected to miss at least two weeks with a sprained ankle after suffering from it during their game against the Miami Heat last night.

Looking at their roster, they only have a few guys who are well-experienced in playoff basketball. Some of them aren't even seeing significant time on the floor. And even though Randle has only one playoff appearance, it's still notable and would prove to be valuable as they fight for their season.

The Knicks could match up against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round. With that in mind, they'll need a capable floor spacer who knows how to create his own shots. Expecting Jalen Brunson to do most of the work won't be effective as the Cavs are a scary team to match up against this season.

Fans of the New York franchise are ecstatic to see their team make their way back into the playoffs.
