NBA Injury Report: De’Aaron Fox questionable, Donovan Mitchell questionable and more updates on Tobias Harris and Jonas Valanciunas | March 6, 2023

Utah Jazz v Sacramento Kings
NBA injury report headlined by status of Donovan Mitchell and De'Aaron Fox.

NBA All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings could miss his team’s game tonight versus the New Orleans Pelicans. He is reportedly dealing with left hamstring soreness.

Fox didn’t play last Feb. 28 in the Kings’ 123-117 win over the OKC Thunder due to a wrist injury. He didn’t show any lingering effects of that injury over his last two games after averaging 29.0 points and 7.0 assists.

The hamstring issue might be something the Sacramento Kings will be very extremely cautious about. Fox’s game is predicated on his ability to get past opponents and attack the rim with his speed. If his hamstring is bothering him, they may choose to sit him out.

The Sacramento Kings are easily the biggest surprise in the NBA this season. They own the third seed in the Western Conference with a 37-26 record. The Kings could even grab the second seed if the Memphis Grizzlies (38-25) falter without Ja Morant down the stretch.

De’Aaron Fox has played a crucial role in the Kings’ incredible season. Mike Brown and the coaching staff may choose to give him a rest until his hamstring isn’t giving him any discomfort.

Davion Mitchell and Matthew Dellavedova are expected to get a bump in their minutes if the first-time NBA All-Star is unavailable.

Meanwhile, Donovan Mitchell has been ruled questionable tonight for the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Boston Celtics. The four-time NBA All-Star injured his hand early in the game versus the Detroit Pistons two nights ago.

Mitchell played just 24 minutes in that game and scored 20 points to go with three rebounds, four assists and two steals. His injury may have gotten worse after the game as his availability is now in question.

The Cleveland Cavaliers (40-26) hold a slim one-game lead over the surging New York Knicks (39-27) for the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference. Holding on to that spot will give them a home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The Cavs may allow Mitchell to play through the injury if the pain and swelling have subsided. Otherwise, they will face the skidding Boston Celtics without their best and most dangerous scorer.

Caris LeVert, Cedi Osman and Ricky Rubio could get more playing time if the four-time NBA All-Star is sidelined.

Tobias Harris: Left calf contusion; Injured since March 4, 2023

Tobias Harris’ night ended prematurely two nights ago against the Milwaukee Bucks, holders of the NBA’s best record, due to left calf soreness. He played just 13 minutes and finished the game with three points and two rebounds.

Harris has missed just four games this season, but could add to that total when the Philadelphia 76ers take on the Indiana Pacers. He has been available for Philly in every game since Jan. 14.

Georges Niang, Jalen McDaniels, Danuel House and Paul Reed could see a bump in their minutes if Tobias Harris is in street clothes tonight.

Jonas Valanciunas: Left calf contusion; Injured since March 1, 2023

Jonas Valanciunas has been dealing with a bruised left calf over the New Orleans Pelicans' last two games. He has been upgraded to questionable for their encounter tonight against the NBA's “Beam Team.”

Valanciunas was reportedly a full participant in the Pelicans’ last practice, which could pave the way for his return to action. New Orleans is desperately holding on to the 9th spot in the bunched-up Western Conference.

The Pelicans are 4-6 in their last 10 games and will gladly welcome Jonas Valanciunas back into the lineup if he’s cleared to play.
