The NBA media rights deal serves as a chance for the league to promote the games throughout the entire season. It allows the NBA to televise games on a grander scale, which features more than one network in the deal. Discussions on the next TV deal are already on the way as the new season starts.

The current contract started in the 2016-17 NBA season, which was discussed back in 2014. According to sources, it's set to expire in the 2024-25 NBA season. Now that sports streaming has started to pick up, deals have improved, and the league is earning more.

This season, the NBA is set to earn $2.6 billion, as it was the agreement between the league, Disney’s ESPN/ABC, and Warner Bros. Discovery’s TNT. This includes televising 165 nationally distributed games. Unfortunately for the league, both Disney and Warner Bros. will reportedly explore the possibility of scaling back the number of games televised.

The next NBA media rights deal will give a chance for the NBA to explore other broadcasting companies. This gives them a chance to possibly make a deal with streaming services since they have a plethora of options in that department.

The next deal will also allow stars to earn more, which is a huge bonus for the league.

There have been rumors that the league might increase its total fees to double, possibly even triple, for the next media deal. Given that basketball has gained popularity globally and more people have shown a massive interest in the NBA, the league won't deal with a shortage of viewers in the next few years.

Which companies could be included in the new NBA media rights deal?

The NBA is looking forward to a harmonious agreement with TV networks and streaming services for the next NBA media rights deal. With the current agreement set to expire after the 2024-25 season, talks have started in regard to which companies could join.

According to reports, several new companies are interested in joining the next deal. Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the league's expiring TV deal, mentioning that the next one will be more complex than the earlier ones.

"There will be more changes in media technology over the next 5 years than there has been in the last 30 years," Silver said.

Companies like Apple, Amazon, Disney, DirecTV, and YouTube have taken an interest in the new NBA media rights deal. These companies will allow the league to live stream games on a grander scale. Currently, the league is focused on TV ratings, but it could change in the new TV deal.
