NBA Most Improved Player 2022-23 odds: Zion Williamson leads the charge, also featuring Anthony Edwards, and more

The 2022-23 NBA season has just gone past its two-week mark and players are already accomplishing astounding stats. Luka Doncic is currently leading the MVP race. Jordan Poole, on the other hand, is one of the frontrunners for the Sixth Man of the Year. But who exactly is taking charge of the Most Improved Player of the year? Let's break it down.

#1 Tyrese Haliburton (+800)

Tyrese Haliburton has been a decent NBA role player ever since his rookie season in 2020-21 with the Sacramento Kings. From his days with the Kings to his current stint with the Indiana Pacers, Haliburton's stats have noticeably increased each year.

As a rookie, he averaged 13 points, 5.3 assists and 1.3 steals. His stats have improved significantly over the past two seasons. Looking at his performances this season, it's the first time Tyrese Haliburton is averaging over 20 points.

As of their defeat to the Brooklyn Nets, Haliburton has averaged 21.9 points, 9.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals. He's flirting with a double-double right now and could likely achieve it considering he's had numerous games with more than 10 assists.

Tyrese Maxey has been brilliant for the Philadelphia 76ers so far. He went from a role player as a rookie to a reliable starter and is now the third option on the team.

Maxey is averaging 24.2 points, 3.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds. He is also shooting efficiently from the field with 51.6% FG. Maxey proved that he can score 30 or 40 points for the Sixers, which makes him a worthy candidate.

#3 Anthony Edwards (+1,000)

LA Lakers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves.

Honestly, it's slightly surprising to see Anthony Edwards appear on this list. Since his rookie season, he has already proved himself to be an elite player. The moment he was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020, Edwards immediately helped Karl-Anthony Towns carry the load for their squad.

Nevertheless, he's probably still part of this list because his stats look a bit better this season. Right now, Anthony Edwards is averaging 23.1 points, four assists, and 6.1 rebounds. Not too far off from his season average last season.

If Zion Williamson is a former NBA All-Star, then why is he a candidate for the NBA's Most Improved Player award? Williamson missed the entire last season due to a foot injury. To come back and perform at the same level he once did is just insane. Williamson is averaging 22.8 points, 4.2 assists, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals this year.

Out of everyone on this list, Lauri Markkanen has played the longest in the NBA. First drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2017, Markkanen has always produced quality numbers as a starter. This time around, it's also his first season wherein he's averaging more than 20 points. Lauri Markkanen currently averages 21.7 points, 2.6 assists and nine rebounds.
