Nia Long's rep confirms breakup with Ime Udoka: "The situation is unfortunate... Nia is focusing on her children and rebuilding her life"

Ime Udoka has dealt with a lot of problems in the past few months. Before the 2022-23 season started, the Boston Celtics head coach was suspended for having an affair with a staff member. Due to this, Nia Long, who was Udoka's fiance, broke up with him.

The Celtics head coach achieved a lot of success in his first year with the team. Thanks to his amazing strategy, Boston advanced all the way to the NBA Finals, which was very impressive.

Unfortunately, it appears that Udoka's time in the league may have come to an end.

Nia Long breaks up with Ime Udoka

The 45-year-old coach will forever suffer because of his affair with a co-worker. While we still don't have all the details regarding everything that's happened, things do not look good for him.

Despite the success he's had, the Celtics did not hesitate to suspend Udoka for a year. He's been replaced by Joe Mazzulla, who may remain the head coach after the 2022-23 season.

Unfortunately, Ime Udoka's personal life hasn't been great either. Nia Long, who's been with him for 13 years, decided to break up with the former coach. The two have been engaged since 2015 and also have a son together.

"The situation is unfortunate and painful, but Nia is focusing on her children and rebuilding her life," the People magazine reports.

"I think the most heartbreaking thing about all of this was seeing my son's face when the Boston Celtics organization decided to make a very private situation public," Nia Long told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month.

Despite the breakup, both Nia and Ime are fully committed to co-parenting Kez Udoka, their 11-year-old son. The actress is also a mom to Massai, a son from her previous relationship, who recently turned 22.

Will Udoka return to coach the Celtics?

Despite achieving great results with the Boston Celtics, it is very unlikely that Ime Udoka will ever coach the team again. A few weeks ago, the Brooklyn Nets were interested in hiring him, and it appeared that the Celtics were ready to let him go.

Joe Mazzulla, Udoka's replacement, has done a fantastic job so far in the 2022-23 season. The Celtics have the best record in the league with 20 wins and only five losses, and are once again favorites to advance to the NBA Finals.

If Mazzulla carries the team deep in the playoffs, there is a good chance that he will completely replace Udoka.
