A look at AJ Griffin's brief NBA career
Insiders expected AJ Griffin to become a solid NBA role player. He showed potential during his rookie season with the Hawks as a 19-year-old.
Griffin played 72 games for Atlanta, starting in 12 contests. The 6-foot-6 forward made 46.5% of his shots from the field, including 39% of his 3-pointers.
Injuries marred his sophomore campaign. He appeared in 20 contests last season. During his second year in the league, Griffin averaged 2.4 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.3 assists. His shooting percentage also declined. The former Duke Blue Devil shot just 29% from the field and 25.6% from range.
During the offseason, Griffin was part of a three-team trade between Atlanta, Houston and Miami. Houston anticipated Griffin returning to full health while boosting its depth.
However, with his recent decision, it appears the NBA world will be left asking 'what if' concerning AJ Griffin.
