What did Bob Myers comment on Andrew Wiggins’ availability?

Golden State Warriors v Portland Trail Blazers
Andrew Wiggins has now missed the Golden State Warriors' last 13 games.

Andrew Wiggins has not played for the Golden State Warriors due to personal reasons since Feb. 14. He has now missed 13 straight games with no definite time frame for his return.

Warriors GM Bob Myers had this to say about Wiggins’ situation:

“We gotta respect him and his life and his privacy. … I’m sure he wants to be here. We want him here, but beyond that I can’t help shed light because if I was in a situation he’s in and I asked people to keep it private, I hope they would. Just honoring that.

He added:

“I haven’t heard anything along the lines of he’s not coming back. There’s speculation on that, but I haven’t been told, ‘Hey, look, he’s not coming back.’”

Andrew Wiggins has played just 37 of the Warriors’ 70 games this season. He previously had a groin injury that sidelined him for nearly two months.

Golden State, though, was confident that he would eventually return. Wiggins’ unavailability for personal reasons is more concerning as he could not be around for perhaps the entire 2022-23 season.

Steph Curry also commented on Andrew Wiggins' long stint outside of the Warriors’ facility:

“Just sending him support. It’s a tough situation in terms of him being away for so long but necessary. Life is bigger than basketball.”

The Golden State Warriors have refused to divulge details of what keeps their starting small forward from playing. Until he returns to address the situation, Dub Nation will just have to hope for the best, both for Wiggins and the team.

The Golden State Warriors will find the playoffs even tougher without Andrew Wiggins

Despite Steph Curry’s 50-point performance about an hour ago against the LA Clippers, the Golden State Warriors still lost. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George combined for 54 points to tow the Clippers to a much-needed win.

Andrew Wiggins' absence was clearly felt when Leonard and George took turns in dismantling the Warriors' defense. Golden State has Donte DiVincenzo and Draymond Green to anchor the defense, but they lack someone like Wiggins to handle the NBA's best wing men.

In last year's playoffs, Wiggins' importance on the defensive end was acclaimed by most basketball analysts, and rightly so. He was the main reason why Luka Doncic struggled in the Western Conference Finals.

Mark Cuban would later admit that the Dallas Mavericks did not expect that kind of two-way play from the former All-Star.

Andrew Wiggins then took his defensive skills to the NBA Finals, where he made life miserable for Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum. Steph Curry was named Finals MVP but Wiggins' impact couldn't be denied.

Wiggins played so well that a few analysts had him as that championship series' best player before Curry's masterpiece in Game 4.

The loss to the Clippers dropped the Warriors’ record to 36-33, which puts them sixth in the Western Conference. Should they manage to grab a playoff spot, the postseason will pose an even tougher challenge without Andrew Wiggins.
