American college football player Bru McCoy is a wide receiver for the Tennessee Volunteers. The team competes in the Southeastern Conference. He is in his redshirt senior year as of April 2025. McCoy is a Rolling Hills Estates, California native as per his roster on the aforementioned university website. McCoy, whose full name is Horace Lee McCoy III was born on June 22, 2000. Bru McCoy began his college football career in 2019 USC and was redshirted as a true freshman that year. He moved to Texas and took part in the 2019 spring practice. He returned to USC in the summer that year. In the following years, he attended all six games and started three of them. McCoy began his career with the Volunteers in 2022 as a redshirt junior. He played 12 games and started all of them in his first season with the team. The following season, he played in five games and was a starter in all of them. His season was limited following a fracture-dislocation of his right ankle, which ended his season. During his sixth year as a redshirt senior, he started 12 games. He was a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year in 2024. He also reached the semifinal of the Comeback Player of the Year.

Rivals.com ranked him as the nation’s 12th overall prospect. During his prep days, he won the 2018 Maxwell Football Club Offensive National High School Player of the Year and MaxPreps National Player of the Year. His name was also enlisted in PrepStar Dream Team and MaxPreps All-American first team.
