In American football, Florida State University (often known as Florida State or FSU) is represented by the Florida State Seminoles football team. The Seminoles participate in both the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In the past, the Seminoles participated in the ACC Atlantic Division.

Doak Campbell Stadium, the fifteenth-largest college football stadium, is the team's home field and is situated on the Tallahassee, Florida, campus. Mike Norvell is the team's current coach. Three quarterbacks from the Florida State Seminoles have won the Heisman Trophy: Charlie Ward in 1993, Chris Weinke in 2000, and Jameis Winston in 2013. Additionally, two Super Bowl MVPs and 294 professional players, including 222 All-Americans (45 consensus and 15 unanimous), have been produced by the program.

Florida State have earned three national championships, nineteen conference titles, six division titles, and one postseason appearance. Also, the Seminoles were undefeated in three seasons: 1950, 1999, and 2013.

In addition, the team completed 41 straight winning seasons from 1977 to 2017 and finished in the top four of the AP Poll for 14 straight years. They also won 29 straight games from 2012 to 2014, which is tied for the longest winning streak in ACC history and the ninth-longest in college football history. Finally, they won 29 straight conference games from 1992 to 1995, which is the longest winning streak in ACC history.

With more than 500 victories and 26 seasons with ten or more wins, the Florida State Seminoles own the tenth-highest winning percentage of any Division I FBS college football team in history. Florida State is ranked fourth in bowl wins and tenth in bowl winning percentage nationwide. The team has participated in more than 50 postseason bowl games.

When was the last time Florida State won the National Championships?

The school's most recent national championship was earned in 2013, the penultimate year of the BCS era.

Florida State led by Jameis Winston defeated Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks. FSU hasn't quite reached that level since Winston went on to be the first choice in the NFL Draft. Moreover, in 1999—the second season of the BCS—the university took home a national championship.
