Ian Jackson is a linebreaker for the UTSA Roadrunners, in his redshirt junior season, as of 2024. Before joining UTSA in 2024, he played for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team from 2021 to 2023, however, he appeared in games in 2022. Jackson was a consensus four-star prospect and one of the top outside linebackers in Alabama during his high school career. He initially played as a defensive back but was moved to outside linebacker, where he recorded 91 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles, and one pick-six in his junior season. His performance caught the attention of several SEC schools, including Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Auburn, and Mississippi State. Ian Jackson ultimately chose to continue his football journey at the University of Alabama, signing with the Crimson Tide in 2021. In his redshirt freshman season in 2022, he saw action on special teams in three games, recording one tackle against Mississippi State.

Jackson hails from Prattville, Alabama. He attended Prattville High School in Prattville, Alabama, where he played football under the guidance of Coach Caleb Ross. Throughout his high school career, Jackson earned recognition as a consensus four-star prospect and one of the top outside linebackers from Alabama. He was listed at No. 216 on the Top247 and ranked as 247Sports' No. 14 player at his position. Additionally, he was rated the No. 14 outside linebacker in the country, No. 234 nationally, and No. 7 in the state on the 247 Composite.

During his time at Prattville, Jackson was named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association 7A All-State Second Team and the Montgomery Advertiser All-Metro Team after the 2019 season. He recorded more than 100 tackles in each of his final two seasons. As a senior, he amassed 11 tackles for loss and five sacks.
