Jalen Catalon is a college football player for the UNLV Rebels Football team, playing as a defensive back. Catalon attended Mansfield Legacy High School where he excelled in multiple sports, including baseball, basketball, and football. As a sophomore in high school, Catalon recorded an impressive 183 total tackles, 139 solo stops, seven tackles for loss, nine interceptions, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He earned four Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2017 after posting 101 tackles, 70 solo stops, six tackles for loss, three interceptions, six forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries as a junior. Catalon also played at quarterback that season, passing for 1,122 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 1,064 yards and 13 scores, leading his team to the Class 5A Division 2 semifinals. A season-ending injury limited him to just one game as a senior.

Jalen Catalon was rated a four-star recruit and committed to play football at the University of Arkansas in 2019. He redshirted his true freshman season. In 2020, Catalon started 9 of 10 games at strong safety, recording 99 total tackles, 51 solo stops, 2 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 4 pass breakups, 1 fumble recovery and 2 forced fumbles. He led all FBS freshmen in tackles per game (9.9) and tied for the lead with 3 interceptions. Catalon's standout season earned him First Team All-SEC honors from the Associated Press, Second Team from the coaches and Freshman All-American recognition from the FWAA and The Athletic. In 2021, Catalon started the first 6 games before a season-ending injury. He still managed 46 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 4 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions in the season opener against Rice. Catalon was named a Preseason Second-Team All-American by the AP and earned a spot on the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list. On January 6, 2024, Catalon announced he would be transferring to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) to continue his college football career.
