Luke Altmyer is an American college football player who will be returning for his second year as a starter for the Illinois Fighting Illini. Altmyer started his football career at Starkville High School where he held the single-game passing record with 426 yards against Germantown. He was tabbed the top-five player in the state of Mississippi by every major sports outlet. Altmyer was ranked the No.116 overall recruit in the nation by ESPN. The four-star quarterback from Starkville embarked on his collegiate football journey with Ole Miss Rebels despite considering offers from top programs like Alabama, Georgia Tech, Florida State, LSU, Louisville, Missouri, Mississippi State, and Oregon.

In his freshman season, Altmyer saw action in only five games as a backup quarterback in 2021. The following year as a sophomore, Altmyer struggled for playing time as he appeared in four games with one start and redshirted the season. In his two years with the Rebels, Altmyer completed 28 of 54 passes for 317 yards, along with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Following the conclusion of the 2022 regular season, he entered the transfer portal and committed to Illinois Fighting Illini where he cemented his spot as the starting quarterback in his debut campaign. Last season, Altmyer started nine games and recorded 1,883 passing yards and 13 touchdowns. The Starkville native aims to reclaim his starting role as a quarterback in his second year with the Fighting Illini.
