Razorback Stadium, located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, boasts a seating capacity of approximately 76,212 enthusiastic fans. It's the spirited home of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks football team. With a rich history and vibrant atmosphere, this stadium creates unforgettable moments for college football fans across the country.

Razorback Stadium History and Construction Costs

Razorback Stadium has a fascinating history and has seen substantial changes over the years. Before the current stadium was built, the Razorbacks played in a small 300-seat stadium constructed in 1901. This old stadium was located where the Mullins Library and Fine Arts Center now stand.

According to Arkansas Razorbacks' official website, the construction of the current Razorback Stadium began in 1938, with a total cost of around $492,000. Most of the funding came from the Works Progress Administration, with the University of Arkansas contributing just 22% of the contract cost. At its initial opening, the stadium was called University Stadium and could accommodate 13,500 spectators. In the first game at the new stadium, the Razorbacks triumphed over Oklahoma A&M with a score of 27–7. Later, on October 3, 1938, the stadium was renamed Bailey Stadium in honor of then-Governor Carl E. Bailey. However, the name was changed again in 1941 to Razorback Stadium after a different governor took office.

In 2001, a significant renovation and expansion project took place, increasing the seating capacity from 51,000 to 72,000. An additional 4,000 bleacher seats were added in the south end zone, bringing the total capacity to over 76,000. This expansion was made possible with a generous donation of $21 million from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, leading to the stadium's renaming as Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

In 2019, the stadium underwent another transformation when natural grass replaced the artificial turf, providing a fresh playing surface for the Razorbacks. Razorback Stadium stands as a symbol of the University of Arkansas's commitment to its football program and its fans, evolving and growing over the years to meet the demands of college football in the Southeastern Conference.
