Carberry makes century on return from cancer battle

Former England batsman Michael Carberry marked his return from a battle with cancer by scoring a century on day one of Hampshire's match against Cardiff MCCU at the Rose Bowl.

Carberry, who featured in six Tests and seven limited-overs internationals, had surgery after discovering he had a cancerous tumour last July.

The left-handed opener was appearing in a first-class match for the first time since then, and a hugely successful knock made his incredible comeback even more special.

Carberry opened alongside Jimmy Adams and made his ton off just 121 deliveries, notching 17 boundaries before his dismissal.

His performance will be a huge boost for Hampshire, who being their County Championship season at Yorkshire on Friday.
