Gujarat Titans is one of the two new IPL teams introduced from the 2022 season. The Ahmedabad-based franchise is not the first in the history of the league to represent the state of Gujarat. The now-defunct Gujarat Lions team played in IPL 2016 and IPL 2017 to replace Rajasthan Royals/Chennai Super Kings. The Gujarat Titans franchise was bought for ₹5625 crore.
Gujarat Titans Owner
The Gujarat Titans franchise is owned by CVC Capital Partners (Irelia Company Pte Ltd). Steve Koltes, Donald Mackenzie, and Rolly van Rappard, representing the company, were present to bid for the team when the BCCI held the draft in October 2021. Gujarat Titans is one of the very few teams to be a child of a commercial company and not a family or group of families.
Gujarat Titans Squad
The first name on the Gujarat Titans player list was that of local boy Hardik Pandya, who has been thrust upon the captaincy duties after leaving the Mumbai Indians for the first time. Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill were also added to the squad before the IPL Mega Auction 2022.
Here is the list of the players acquired at the auction table:
Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Lockie Ferguson, Rahul Tewatia, Abhinav Sadarangani, B. Sai Sudharsan, R. Sai Kishore, Jason Roy, Jayant Yadav, Alzarri Joseph, Darshan Nalkande, Pradeep Sangwan, Yash Dayal, Noor Ahmad, Mohammad Shami, Dominic Drakes, Matthew Wade, Varun Aaron, Wriddhiman Saha, Gurkeerat Singh
Ashish Nehra will be the head coach of the Titans, Gary Kirsten will be the mentor and batting coach while Vikram Solanki has been appointed as the director of cricket.
Gujarat Titans Social Media Followers
The Titans have 65K followers on Twitter, 183K followers on Instagram and 40K followers on Facebook as of now. A major reason for the low fan following is that the accounts were created only a couple of days before the Mega Auction.
