The Indian Test captain led the Royal Challengers Bangalore by example. The 27-year-old right-handed batsman opened the innings for the Bangalore-based team and quite simple ruled his year’s IPL. He was the main reason behind RCB’s super run to the final after a disastrous start to the campaign.
The “run-machine” carried his superb World T20 form into the tournament and with the help of his superhuman consistency he kept punishing the bowlers in virtually every match. Virat scored a record 973 runs in 16 matches at a whopping average of 81.08 and with a massive strike-rate of 152.03. He was declared as the most valuable player of the tournament for his supreme performance.
It was a record-breaking performance from the Delhi-born cricketer as he scored four centuries in the tournament and also became the highest run-scorer in the history of the IPL. Virat also became the highest run-scorer in a single season of the IPL.
