How did Rahul Chahar's Brother start his Career in Cricket?

Rejection at the age of 16, a prodigy at the age of 18, and oblivion at the age of 24 — it has been the tale of Rahul Chahar's brother, Deepak so far. Back in the year 2008, when Greg Chappell was the director of the Rajasthan Cricket Academy, he had asked Deepak Chahar to leave cricket. The determined Chahar did not give up and made a statement by picking up 8 wickets in his debut innings at the 2010-11 Ranji Trophy. His performance helped to bundle out Hyderabad for just 21 — the lowest-ever total in Ranji Trophy history.

However, Deepak could not realize his full potential as he was troubled by persistent injuries. In 6 years of first-class cricket, Deepak Chahar has accounted for 105 wickets in 35 games at a not-so-noteworthy average of 35.17.

Rahul Chahar's Brother's IPL Career

In the IPL, Deepak Chahar had been a well-known absentee despite being a part of the Rajasthan Royals. In the year 2016, Deepak Chahar was picked up by the temporary franchise Rising Pune Supergiants whom he represented for a couple of seasons.

The 2016 and 2017 seasons in the IPL weren't high for him either, although he did show flashes of his brilliance. In the domestic circuit, Deepak Chahar kept delivering the goods consistently, but performances in high-profile tournaments such as the IPL make the world sit up and take note. His grand success in the 2018 Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy made him stake a claim at the IPL auctions where he was picked up by the Chennai Super Kings.

In the 2018 and 2019 seasons of the IPL, Deepak Chahar became Chennai's pace spearhead, bowling delightful new-ball spells and steadily honing his old-ball skills as well.

When did Rahul Chahar's Brother perform for the National Team?

Not surprisingly, a call-up to the national side was round the corner for Deepak Chahar, and to fast-track the steps, the selectors included him in India A squad for the Tri-series including England Lions and Windies A in 2018. The pacer carried his IPL form into the tournament and picked up ten wickets, thereby emerging as the best wicket-taker for India A.

Jasprit Bumrah's injury meant that Deepak Chahar was promoted to the Indian T20I side against England in May of that year. He finally made his debut in the 3rd game of the series. He dismissed Jason Roy on his debut and had a not-so-memorable outing with figures of 1 for 44 in his 4 overs.

Later that year, Deepak Chahar made his One Day International debut for India against Afghanistan during the 2018 Asia Cup.

Are Deepak and Rahul Chahar Brothers?

Deepak and Rahul Chahar are cousins. Both Chahar brothers performed for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy and also shared the dressing room at the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant. Coming a long way since playing gully cricket together in Agra, the duo is now vital cogs in their separate IPL teams' wheels.

Rahul also wanted to become a pacer like his elder cousin Deepak Chahar, but it was Deepak's father who recognized Rahul's capability to turn the ball piercingly in the nets and prompted him to become a leg-spinner.

Rahul’s skills lie in his powerful leg-breaks and fine control over it whilst Deepak is an excellent Powerplay bowler and also a death-overs specialist.
