Steam Deck

Last Modified Mar 08, 2022 08:40 GMT

Valve's Steam Deck is a handheld gaming computer created in collaboration with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). The device, which was released on February 25, 2022, can be used as a handheld or connected to a monitor in the same way that the Nintendo Switch is. The Deck will be available in three different models based on internal storage capacity.

Steam Deck is powered by SteamOS v3.0, a modified version of Arch Linux. The SteamOS software includes Proton support, a compatibility layer that allows most Microsoft Windows games to be played on the Linux-based SteamOS. The Steam client on the Deck is a modified version of the desktop Steam client.

While the Deck was designed to play Steam-based games, it can also be loaded with third-party software such as Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, or Origin. The built-in browser on the device supports Xbox Cloud Gaming.
