It goes without saying that there are a variety of different potions that one can use when it comes to playing Minecraft. For some, however, the use of such an interesting item, especially with the variety they come can bring limitations. If you want to give a friend a bottle in the midst of a fight you have to physically get close to them so you can drop it towards your ally. If you want to use a potion against a mob, your thrown potion has to hit them dead on or else it won’t have any effect. The lingering potion thankfully solves all of these problems.
The lingering potion can be in multiple varieties for various uses, depending on what it is using as a base. As far as what it can actually do, a lingering potion leaves a cloud of the status effect of whatever splash potion you use as a base when thrown, and those that come into contact with the cloud will either suffer or benefit from whatever is in the cloud.
The cloud will cover at least three blocks when it explodes and will last around thirty seconds until the particles within dissipate after use. A lingering potion of healing for example will heal those who step into the cloud.
How To Create
As useful as this potion may be, acquiring it will be a tad bit difficult due to the main ingredient being difficult and rare to acquire. This is due to the ingredient in question being a bottle of dragon breath.
Unless it is summoned through commands, the only way to achieve such a resource is through going into the end and meeting the dragon that inhabits the domain. From there you will need to wait for the dragon to make a breath attack and then approach the particles that are left behind. Make sure to bring multiple glass bottles with you so that once you right-click one of these leftover particles you can acquire multiple glasses of dragon breath.
Once you have your needed resource, you need only to go to a brewing station, put in blaze powder to start it up, and then put your bottle of dragon breath in the topmost slot.
You then want to put your base potion of choice; in this case, we will use a potion of splash healing to create a potion of lingering healing. From there you should have your desired potion.
The possibilities are nearly endless for what you can create. Using potions like poison, speed, slowness, and even invisibility can greatly work to your favor if used correctly and if the lingering effect is added on to it. It’s up to you to explore these possibilities once you have the coveted dragon breath.
Keep in mind that it will be difficult and possibly time-consuming to get dragon’s breath, especially in survival mode. It’s with this in mind that you should use your lingering potions as wisely as possible, for it will be difficult to replace them unless you are in creative mode.
