Derrick Lewis

Derrick Lewis is one of the most feared professional mixed martial artists who competes in the heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Armed with impeccable punching power, the knockout artist currently holds the record for most knockouts in the promotion.

Before signing with the UFC, Derrick Lewis fought in multiple professional mixed martial arts promotions. He made his debut as a professional mixed martial artist on April 9, 2010, against Nick Mitchell at Worldwide Gladiator. Lewis knocked out Mitchell by a first-round TKO to pick up a win and started his career on a high note. After amassing an impressive professional record of 10 wins, 2 losses, and 1 no-contest, Lewis made his promotional debut at the UFC on April 19, 2014, against Jack May at UFC on Fox: Werdum vs. Browne. Lewis made quick work of May and dispatched him in the first round by a TKO to keep his winning momentum alive. Derrick Lewis challenged the then UFC heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, on November 3, 2018, for the UFC heavyweight championship but failed to cross the line as Cormier defeated him by a second-round submission.

Derrick Lewis' Training

Derrick Lewis started training with a dream to pursue a career in combat sports at the young age of 17. He initially was eyeing a place for himself in boxing but due to some legal troubles, he eventually shifted to the world of mixed martial arts. After debuting as a professional, Lewis won his first championship while fighting at the Legacy FC on August 17, 2012 at Legacy FC 13. He defeated Jared Rosholt by a second-round knockout to become the champion in the promotion.

Has Derrick Lewis won a UFC title?

Derrick Lewis is yet to win a title in the UFC. The heavyweight powerhouse fought once for the UFC heavyweight championship and the UFC interim heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier and Ciryl Gane at UFC 235 and UFC 265. Both times he was defeated by a second-round submission and a third-round TKO, which kept him from realizing his dream.
