"One of the worst decisions made by an organization in the history of the NFL" - Cowboys fans can't believe franchise traded Amari Cooper to keep hold of Ezekiel Elliott

Ezekiel Elliott's $90 million contract extension from two years ago has come back to bite the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.

Elliott is one of the NFL's better running backs when healthy. However, he hasn't been the same player since signing his extension, making him grossly overpaid.

The Cowboys traded Amari Cooper on Saturday to shed money. Cooper was a natural fit with Dallas and did wonders for Dak Prescott's career. Cowboys fans have reached their breaking points with Elliott's massive contract and how it's affecting the rest of the roster.

Daniel Rotman voiced his opinion on Twitter. Rotman tweeted that Ezekiel Elliott remaining with the Cowboys is one of the worst decisions by a team in NFL history. He even said Elliott isn't one of the 20 best running backs in the league.

Mookie Alexander was one of several fans who tweeted their frustrations about the team keeping Elliott over Cooper. Alexander was fed up with the team prioritizing Elliott over the likes of Randy Gregory and others.

FantasyPros writer Connor Conbon tweeted a take shared by many Cowboys fans. Conbon tweeted that Cooper should've been the one to remain with the team while Elliott should've been traded.

Another fan tweeted directly at Ezekiel Elliott. They told Elliott to save his money while he could because after this season, he won't be able to take money from the Cowboys anymore.

The Cowboys can move on from Elliot next season without incurring much of a hit to their salary cap.

One Cowboys fan questioned how it took everyone two years to see that giving Elliott a monstrous contract extension was a mistake.

Ezekiel Elliott had one fan stick up for his play. They tweeted that Elliott is still a great running back. It's just that his contract has made the public's perception of him turn negative.

Brad Menke tweeted that anyone who understands NFL contracts should've known it's not a wise investment to give a running back like Elliott the kind of money Jerry Jones did.

A Cowboys fan threw Ezekiel Elliott's name into the discussion of horridly overpaid Cowboys players.

Cameron Bernath is tired of dealing with the poor decision-making from the Cowboys' ownership. Ultimately, the Cowboys traded Cooper to afford Michael Gallup, who's a less durable and less proven player.

Bernath also can't see why they're keeping Elliott, whose average yards per game has declined every season since his rookie season in 2016.

Finally, Stewart Doreen is already counting down the time until the Cowboys can rid themselves of Elliott's contract, which could be next offseason.

After the Cowboys gave Elliott their vote of confidence by choosing him over Cooper, the running back will face a mountain of pressure to perform exceptionally well in 2022.

Gallup and CeeDee Lamb are an adequate wide receiver duo but will receive the bulk of the attention from defenses without Cooper.

Tony Pollard has received more carries every season since joining the team in 2019. If Elliott struggles or gets hurt, it wouldn't be surprising to see Pollard receive the majority of carries.

Elliott hasn't been able to come close to the numbers he put up in 2016 as a rookie. Although he ran harder in 2021 than we'd seen in a couple of years, it wasn't enough to warrant the money he's receiving.

For the Cowboys to contend in the NFC East next year, Elliot must play up to the standard set by his lucrative contract.
