"He will find any reason to be motivated to try to kill you" - Shannon Sharpe reckons Tom Brady's wrath will burn Kyle Shanahan's 49ers

This weekend's NFC matchup pits Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers against Kyle Shanahan's San Francisco 49ers. Due to Jimmy Garoppolo's unfortunate injury, it will be No. 12 against Brock Purdy's first clean start of the season.

Speaking on Undisputed, NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe explained the motivation behind No. 12's preparation this week. Here's how he put it:

"The greats will find any reason to be motivated to try to kill you. I think the extra motivation for Tom Brady is, man, 'I gotta get my offense playing better. We played better a couple of drives here, a couple of drives there."

He continued, outlining the quarterback's frustration with where he is at 6-6:

"'That's not gonna cut it. That's not a Tom Brady team.' And he knows come December, this is the time that we need to be playing some of our best football."

He went on, explaining that ultimately, the quarterback is hoping to shut down the detractors who have been piling on all season long:

"'No, that's not good enough.' I believe there's [extra] motivation in this. Do I believe that he wants to kill the 49ers...? Yeah, I believe he'll be motivated, but I believe he was extra motivated, because they're like, man, 'Tom don't look like Tom. Tom [looks] like he wants to be somewhere else.'"

Tom Brady won the Super Bowl in 2020 with the team he's currently on. However, the Buccaneers haven't looked anything like that team or the 2021 team that mostly coasted through the season. Rather, the Buccaneers are leading a division at 6-6 that has lost Matt Ryan, Drew Brees, and Cam Newton in the last several years.

No. 12 has avoided imploding in critical moments for most of the year, but he struggled early on to make the critical throw. Of course, over the last month, he's been as clutch as ever in late game-winning drives over the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints. He also put together a strong showing in Germany against the Seattle Seahawks.
