Quinten Dormady found himself in the crosshairs of sports media when it was reported that he gave away his team's plays to an opponent. As a result, the quarterback was suspended by the league for his alleged actions. He was cleared via an XFL investigation of the allegations.

The Orlando Guardians quarterback called the claims against him both “bogus” and “absolute bulls—.”

While speaking to The Athletic, Dormandy expressed how the accusations impacted his career and life.

Dormandy said:

“My name has been tarnished and defamed for things that were completely false. And that’s not just for this team or for any of this. This is for my lifetime. You google the name Dormady and the only thing that pops up is this.”

Quinten Dormady is now taking steps to getting his name back. It began by speaking to his Guardians teammates. Prior to their fifth game of the season, his teammates voted for his return. Earlier this month, the XFL released a statement reinstating Dormady.

The statement read:

“Additional information on the situation was brought to the attention of the league overnight, and the league has reinstated the player while it conducts a formal investigation into the issue. The situation is under review, and we will share more details regarding the findings as appropriate.”

Investigators worked their way through coaches and players on both the Orlando Guardians and San Antonio Brahmas and league staff. Meanwhile, Dormady’s attorney threatened a lawsuit. Quinten Dormady was interviewed late in the process for many hours before being reinstated.

How did the Quinten Dormady allegations start?

Text messages were turned in to the XFL as part of its investigation and acquired by The Athletic. In those text messages, Guardians quarterback Deondre Francois turned to a group chat with many of his Guardians teammates. Francois texted the night of the loss to the Brahmas.

Francois said:

“I gotta drink before I find Q and slam him on his neck. The way I’m feeling right now bro."

In the Guardians group chat, Francois posted a screenshot of a conversation between himself and a Brahmas player whose phone number had been omitted by Francois. The player was not identified in the league’s investigation, as stated by someone familiar with the situation.

Francois asked the unidentified San Antonio player in the text if he knew of their plays that week.

Francois said:

“He told Reid [Sinnett] basically everything I was running this week? And Reid told y’all?”

Despite the accusations, Quinten Dormady played in the Guardians' most recent game, a 35 - 32 loss to the Las Vegas Vipers. He came into the game in relief of Paxton Lynch, throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns in the game.
