Appearance

Zweilous is a quadrupedal, blue, dragon-like Pokemon with two heads. Its two front legs are pointed forwards with two claws each and its back two legs are pointed backwards. Most of Zweilous’s body is blue with black fur around its head and neck. There are also two black wings coming out of Zweilous’s back. Zweilous has no apparent eyes, but it is unknown if the Pokemon is actually blind. It is an average sized Pokemon at 4 feet and 7 inches, or 1.4 meters, tall.

Behavior

Zweilous has a unique behavior as a Pokemon as both of its heads are independent from one another and they will compete with each other for food. Neither head gets along with the other and they are constantly seen battling one another which can make it a difficult Pokemon to raise. It is also known to be a nomadic Pokemon, constantly traveling from one location to another looking for food. The Pokedex mentions that whichever head manages to eat more food becomes the leader.

Strengths and Weaknesses

As Zweilous has yet to evolve, it is not as powerful as it can be. It requires a great deal of investment in order to evolve to its final form and at its current stage, it is not particularly powerful. Its physical attack is decent for a middle evolution but its speed is lower than average. As a dual type dark and dragon Pokemon, Zweilous takes 2x damage from fighting, bug, ice, and dragon type moves. It also takes 4x damage from fairy type moves. Furthermore, Zweilous is immune to psychic type moves and resistant against ghost, fire, water, grass, electric, and dark type moves.

Best Moveset

As the second stage evolution in its evolution line, Zweilous is usable in the NFE (Not Fully Evolved) format of competitive play. It is not particularly powerful at this stage, but it is decent as an offensive dragon type Pokemon. However, it is typically used as an offensive Pokemon as it is capable of doing significant damage with its Hustle ability. Consider running Crunch, Outrage, Superpower, and Head Smash. Crunch and Outrage benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus). Finally, both Superpower and Head Smash are used for type coverage options.

How to Catch Zweilous in Pokemon Go?

If you would like to obtain a Zweilous in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to first obtain a Deino to eventually evolve into Zweilous. Like most evolved Pokemon it is easier to find its base evolution than its final evolution in the wild. Thus you can find Deino spawning in the wild at a boosted rate near landmarks during windy weather. Deino can also be hatched from 7, 10, and 12 km eggs, and you can also find Deino as a tier one raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. In order to evolve Deino to Zweilous you will need 25 candies and another 100 to evolve it into Hydreigon.

Trivia

  1. Of all the Pokemon in the franchise that evolve through reaching a level threshold, Zweilous evolves at the highest level threshold.
  2. The inspiration for Zweiolous’s design is likely based on the Yamata no Orochi.
  3. The name Zweilous is a combination of the words zwei (German for two) and jealous.

FAQ

How do you evolve Zweilous?

Zweilous will evolve into Hydreigon at level 64. There are no special conditions that you need to fulfill at any stage of Zweilous’s evolution line and it will begin to evolve once you reach the level thresholds. After you have finished battle, Zweilous will begin to evolve into Hydreigon if it reaches level 64. You just need to let the evolution animation play without pressing the “B” button.

Should I evolve Zweilous?

There is almost no reason not to consider using Hydreigon over Zweilous. The common arguments involve its usability in the NFE (Not Fully Evolved) format of competitive play along with the defensive benefits of the held item Eviolite. However, Hydreigon is simply one of the strongest Pokemon in the franchise and it is best to reach it as soon as possible.

How good is Zweilous?

As a middle evolution dragon type Pokemon, it is still relatively weak at this stage. Especially since its level threshold for evolution is so high. With the Hustle ability and an Eviolite held item it is easier to ignore its lower base stat totals, but you will want to evolve you Zweilous as soon as you can.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Hostile Pokemon”. While Zweilous is not as powerful as its final evolution, it is capable of holding its own in battle. Dragon type Pokemon are highly sought after and Zweilous is a good example of why this is the case. Its final evolution is simply one of the strongest Pokemon in the franchise. Reserve a slot on your team for Zweilous if you want a dual type dark and dragon Pokemon.
