
Mattias Ekholm is a Swedish defenceman for the Edmonton Oilers as of 2025. Drafted by Nashville in 2009, he debuted in the NHL in 2011 but was sent back to Sweden, where he won the 2012 Borje Salming Award and helped Brynas win the league title. He returned to North America and became a regular for the Predators in 2013-14. Ekholm reached career highs in 2018-19 with 44 points and a +27 rating. He signed a four-year, $25 million extension with Nashville in 2021 and was traded to Edmonton on Feb. 28, 2023.
