The 7 on 7 Elimination tag team match took place between Team WWE (Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, R-Truth, Daniel Bryan, John Morrison) led by John Cena, and The Nexus (Heath Slater, David Otunga, Darren Young, Skip Sheffield, Justin Gabriel, Michael Tarver) led by Wade Barrett. The feud started when The Nexus (a group of NXT rookies) made their WWE debut by attacking John Cena, CM Punk, and other WWE superstars with the demand for permanent WWE contracts. The appeal was denied by Bret Hart who was then serving as the General Manager of RAW. The Nexus attacks Bret Hart and pressurizes Vince McMahon to find another General manager. An anonymous General Manager appointed the Nexus and this incident allowed The Nexus to show their dominance. They attacked John Cena and cost him the WWE Title two times (Money in the Bank and Fatal-4-Way). When Cena confronted them, The Nexus offered him a place in the group which Cena refused and formed Team WWE to face them at SummerSlam. The Great Khali was an initial member of the team but he was attacked by The Nexus and removed from the face-off. The Miz offered his service to Team WWE but Cena refused it and replaced him with Daniel Bryan.
