Kate Martin's Early Life
Kate Martin was born and raised in Granite City and Edwardsville, Illinois, Martin started playing basketball at age five, playing on local recreational leagues and playing pickup ball at the YMCA. Her father was one of her early coaches. She attended Edwardsville High School, where she played under head coach Lori Blade.
Kate Martin signed with the Iowa Hawkeyes football program in 2018, where she played for five seasons under head coach Lisa Bluder. During her time with the Hawkeyes, she started in 139 consecutive games, which is the longest streak in Division I women's basketball in the past 25 years. Over her career, she appeared in 163 games and played a crucial role in leading Iowa to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including back-to-back national championship games in 2023 and 2024, according to the Iowa Hawkeyes' official website.
Martin became the first Iowa women's basketball player to achieve a career of at least 900 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists, 120 steals, and 60 blocks.
