La La Anthony and Carmelo Anthony met in 2003 and were together for almost two decades. The two started off as friends and became romantic partners shortly after.
The basketball star became engaged to La La on Christmas Day 2004, during his sophomore season in the NBA. They had a son in 2007 and got married in 2010. Unfortunately, La La Anthony filed for divorce in June 2021.
Melo's ex-wife recently appeared on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast with Alex Cooper. She spoke about her marriage to Carmelo and why their marriage failed.
“When we lived here [in New York] under all of that [attention], that's when things became complicated," La La said on the podcast. "I think that was kind of the start. Now that I look back, that was kind of the start of the demise of the marriage."
She was referring to the trade between the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks on the podcast. Unfortunately, this trade happened just less than a year after she married Carmelo Anthony.
La La Anthony and Carmelo did not function well in New York
Carmelo Anthony spent seven and a half seasons with the Denver Nuggets. This is where he established himself as one of the best players in the league and where he became an offensive threat.
The forward married La La Anthony on July 10, 2010, in New York. At this point, he was still on the Nuggets and was coming off a great season in which he averaged 28.2 points.
Despite his amazing individual performances, the Nuggets couldn't get far with Melo and they ended up trading him to the New York Knicks. The trade took place on Feb. 22, 2011, just seven months after his marriage to La La Anthony.
Playing in the Big Apple is special and it's definitely not for everyone. While the basketball star seemingly got used to it, it appears that La La wasn't happy at all, which is what caused a rift between them.
"Things got tough with New York," La La Anthony admitted on the podcast. "Just constantly being under the spotlight and people watching every little thing."
La La and Carmelo are no longer together. However, they are still friends and are co-parenting Kiyan, their 15-year-old son.
La La is open to dating once again
The 41-year-old TV personality said that she had some great times with her husband. However, it is now time to move on. After her failed marriage, La La Anthony is open to dating once again.
However, it seems like she is done with basketball players. She spent 11 years being married to a basketball star and it appears that she's ready to explore other options right now.
