Memphis Grizzlies Injury Report (January 13): What's the latest update on Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart?

Memphis Grizzlies v Dallas Mavericks
Desmond Bane's ankle sprain is the latest in the Memphis Grizzlies' injury-riddled season so far.

Desmond Bane could be in missing the Memphis Grizzlies' game against the New York Knicks on Saturday night after hurting his ankle against the LA Clippers. ESPN reports that he is listed as "day-to-day," which virtually means he is questionable against the Knicks.

Bane joins an even longer injury list for the Grizzlies. As earlier reported, Marcus Smart will be sidelined until late February due to a ring finger injury.

Ja Morant was already ruled out for the season due to his shoulder injury. He underwent surgery to repair the labral tear in his right shoulder.

Derrick Rose is still out for the Grizzlies due to his hamstring injury, and so is Brandon Clarke, who could only return after the All-Star break as he recovers from his Achilles tendon injury. Steven Adams is also out indefinitely due to a knee injury.

Santi Aldama sat out the Memphis Grizzlies' game against the LA Clippers, but there could be a chance that he will play through a knee contusion against the New York Knicks.

What happened to Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart?

Desmond Bane accidentally stepped on Kawhi Leonard while driving to the basket with five minutes left in the third quarter of the game between the LA Clippers and the Memphis Grizzlies, spraining his right ankle in the process.

Bane never returned to the game where the Clippers mauled the Grizzlies, 128-119.

On the other hand, Marcus Smart broke his finger while making a 3-pointer in the Memphis Grizzlies' earlier contest against the Dallas Mavericks.

Desmond Bane's stats vs. LA Clippers

Desmond Bane finished with 15 points, one rebound, three assists, and a steal in a little under 23 minutes of play against the LA Clippers.

He was solid from three-point range (3-for-6) and the free throw line (6-for-7), but he struggled on two-pointers (0-for-5) in the game. The tougher fact: Bane injured his ankle while going for a layup.

When will Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart return?

As reported before, Marcus Smart could only return as early as before the end of February or just after the All-Star break even as his hand will be re-evaluated.

Meanwhile, there is no timetable for Bane's ankle injury recovery at the moment. However, because the Grizzlies are playing a back-to-back schedule, there could be a chance that he might sit out the tail end of their two-night home stand.
