Even as he becomes the oldest player in the league, LeBron James remains one of the NBA's most dominant forces.
The soon-to-be 39-year-old continues to command the attention of the media and opposing teams, as he's expected to not only make an impact but to lead the LA Lakers to another successful season.
While his age is certainly seen as a factor, LeBron does not seem to be interested in hanging up his sneakers just yet. In fact, he has made it clear in the past that he wants to remain in the league and play with his son, LeBron "Bronny" James Jr.
However, a recent commercial featuring football star Erling Haaland and the James family alluded to the fact that LeBron might also want to play with his younger son, Bryce James.
The commercial is narrated by Haaland's father Alfie and LeBron's wife Savannah. In it, the accomplishments of the two stars are narrated by their family members, and are told to do them again. (At the 1:32 second mark of the commercial), Savannah James said to her husband:
"Tell them you're not done until you play with your son." This line was said while the camera was focused on Bronny, and then she continued, "Then do that, again." During the second line, the camera showed Bryce James.
The commercial was posted by Bryce James on Instagram with the caption "My acting debut for @beatsbydre"
One can easily infer that this line by Savannah indicates that LeBron wants to play with both his sons before retiring. It was also pointed out by ESPN's Dave McMenamin as he reposted the commercial on X, previously known as Twitter:
Bronny James will be eligible to join the NBA next year, the same year that his father turns 40.
Meanwhile, the earliest Bryce James can become eligible to enter the NBA is in 2026, unless the league starts allowing players to enter the league straight out of high school again.
At that point, LeBron James will be 42. While it's not impossible for him to continue playing at that point, it's fair to wonder how effective a player he will be.
Looking back at LeBron James' numbers from last season
LeBron James' 21st season in the NBA is set to begin soon. There aren't a lot of players who get to play as long as he has, and if they do, they certainly do not put up the kind of numbers that he has.
Last season, James became the NBA's leader in total points scored, surpassing LA Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. James ended the 2022-23 campaign with a career regular-season total of 38,652 points.
He was only limited to 55 games last year but he did put up great numbers throughout the season.
He averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists. He also made 50% of his shots. LeBron was able to accomplish that while averaging 35.5 minutes of playing time.
LeBron James proved that he can still be effective despite his age. Next season, he will be the oldest active player in the NBA, and fans will certainly watch how he performs.
