Zion Williamson is one of the best in-game dunkers. Standing at 6-foot-6, the power forward is capable of throwing down powerful slams against his opponents. Due to this, he is considering participating in the next Slam Dunk Contest.

The New Orleans Pelicans forward would definitely be among the favorites to win the contest.

"I think about it. I put heavy consideration into doing the dunk contest," Williamson said. "I feel like if I'm gonna do it, I'll probably do it next year."

The Pelicans star hasn't been able to stay healthy so far in his career, which has been his biggest challenge. However, if he stays healthy next year, we might see him perform in the dunking competition.

Zion Williamson wants to participate in the Slam Dunk Contest

Zion Williamson has appeared in only 29 games in the 2022-23 season. However, he's been incredible, averaging 26.0 points on 60.8% shooting. The Pelicans forward is one of the most efficient scorers in the league and most of his shots have come at the rim.

Out of the 2855 shots he's made this season, 247 have been layups or dunks. This means that more than 86% of his makes have been from close range. Besides his powerful dunks, Zion is well known for performing acrobatic layups.

Not only is Zion Williamson 6-foot-6, but his vertical of 45 inches makes him one of the most athletic high-flyers in the league. With the combination of size and impressive leap, the 22-year-old forward is capable of throwing down spectacular dunks.

The NBA has a lot of fantastic dunkers who are popular, such as Ja Morant, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Paul George. However, the league may need to find a way to incentivize these players to participate in the dunk contest.

Will other NBA superstars participate in the dunk contest?

The NBA has to find a way to motivate superstars to participate in the Slam Dunk Contest. The All-Star Game stopped being entertaining before the league implemented the Elam Ending.

If Adam Silver can figure out a proper incentive for superstars, there is no doubt that a lot of them would be interested in participating.
