During that season, he cumulatively attempted 66 passes from which 37 were successful, for a total of 479 passing yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

This K-state quarterback also rushed for 296 yards and seven touchdowns on 52 carries making him a dual-threat. Moreover, his seven rushing touchdowns as a freshman were the second most in school history and most by any freshman. He collected the most touchdowns against Texas Tech, with five, to tie a school record. These included being named Pop-Tarts Bowl MVP, Honorable Mention Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, National True Freshman of the Week, and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, amongst others.
