Jeff is a former NFL player, and as of August 2025, he is the head coach of the Louisville Cardinals football team. Before he made his switch to the Cardinals, he coached Purdue from 2017-2022. In 2002, Brohm began his coaching career as the head coach of the Louisville Fire arena football club. As a player, he wasn't picked up in the NFL draft in 1994. He was a quarterback for seven NFL seasons, including 1994 with the San Diego Chargers, 1995 with the Washington Redskins, 1995–1997 with the San Francisco 49ers, 1998 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1999 with the Denver Broncos, and 2000 with the Cleveland Browns.

After guiding his team to a state championship and an undefeated season in the 1980s, Brohm was awarded the "Kentucky High School Player of the Decade" and went on to win the Kentucky "Mr. Football" Award in 1988.
