
Since December 2019, the Florida State Seminoles football team has employed Mike Norvell as its collegiate football coach. In the history of the FSU program, he was appointed as the eleventh full-time head coach.
In 2022, FSU concluded the season with a 10-win record and a No. 10 Coaches Poll and No. 11 AP Poll ranking during his tenure. He received the ACC Coach of the Year Award, the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year Award, the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award, and the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award.
Mike Norvell Coaching History
Mike Norvell started his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Central Arkansas Bears football team. He then moved on to Tulsa in 2007 and stayed there in various roles till 2010. At Pittsburgh, he worked under Todd Graham as his first offensive coordinator. He served as Arizona State's offensive coordinator the next season.
Memphis (2016-19)
Norvell was named the 24th head football coach of the Memphis Tigers on December 4, 2015. At the time of his hire, Norvell was the youngest FBS head coach in the country (34 years old). Norvell agreed to a five-year contract with the University of Memphis, which paid him a base salary of $1.8 million in his first year and would rise somewhat each year after that. He had an overall record of 38 wins and 15 losses with the team before he moved to Florida State Seminoles.
Florida State Seminoles (2020-Present)
Norvell was officially named Florida State University's new football coach on December 8, 2019. His original contract was for six years and $26.5 million. The 2024 season concluded with a 2–10 record, the team's worst since 1974, following two consecutive fantastic seasons. As of August 2025, he has a 33–27 overall record with the team.
