Tyler Buchner is an American college football player who has returned to Notre Dame in 2024 after spending just one season with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Buchner started his football career as a quarterback at the Bishop’s School where he recorded 4,474 yards with 53 touchdowns and five interceptions in his junior year. He transferred to Helix High School where he spent his senior and final year of prep career but could not participate due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Buchner was invited to participate in the 2021 Under Armour All-America game and the 2020 Elite 11 finals. The four-star athlete started his collegiate football journey with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish despite receiving offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, USC, and TCU among others.

Buchner was named the No.7 player in the state of California in the 2021 recruiting class. In 2021 as a freshman, Buchner appeared in 10 games and finished the season with 298 passing yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. The following year as a sophomore, Buchner only saw action in three games due to a shoulder injury and hauled in 651 passing yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions. Following the conclusion of the 2022 regular season, Buchner entered the transfer portal for the first time and transferred to Alabama Crimson Tide where he did not garner any minutes under Nick Saban. He then entered the transfer portal in 2023 to return to Notre Dame as a walk-on wide receiver.
