The Indian Premier League is one of the most popular and competitive T20 cricket leagues in the world. The league features ten teams competing annually for the championship. Among the most successful teams, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who lead the way with five titles each, while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) follow with three championships. Other past winners include Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Deccan Chargers (DC). However, some teams, including Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Delhi Capitals (DC), have yet to win an IPL title, as of March 2025.

In terms of individual records, Virat Kohli holds the record for most runs in IPL history, while Yuzvendra Chahal has taken the most wickets as of the 2024 IPL season. The highest individual score in a match remains 175 by Chris Gayle and Alzarri Joseph’s 6/12 is the best bowling performance.

Highest opening partnership in IPL

In IPL 2022, LSG's opening pair of Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul reportedly became the first set of openers to amass a 200+ run stand. De Kock scored 140 off 70 deliveries and added an unbeaten 210 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders with KL. In the process, the duo broke the record for the highest opening stand in the league's history. The second was in 2024 when B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans reached the record against Chennai Super Kings. Sunrisers Hyderabad's duo of Jonny Bairstow and David Warner put up an impressive 185-run stand, followed by Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn of Kolkata Knight Riders, who remained unbeaten at 184. Kings XI Punjab’s Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul have also had a 183-run stand.

Other notable duos include Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings) and Faf du Plessis with Shane Watson (CSK), both of whom built over 180-run stands. Royal Challengers Bangalore has had multiple great partnerships, including Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, who also remained unbeaten at 181.
