The IPL Man of the Series award was given to the player who played the best among all in a particular season. The organizers of the competition replaced the Man of the Series in IPL with the IPL Most Valuable Player award in 2013.

Unlike the Most Valuable Player award, there was not a specific Player Rating system in place for the Man of the Series. Five players won the Man of the Series award from 2008 to 2012. Only one Indian player - Sachin Tendulkar could win this trophy.

Foreign all-rounders Shane Watson, Chris Gayle, and Sunil Narine claimed this award in 2008, 2011, and 2012 respectively. Meanwhile, Adam Gilchrist won the Man of the Series in IPL 2009 for leading the Deccan Chargers from the front in South Africa.

It is noteworthy that three out of the five IPL Man of the Series award winners were a part of the winning IPL team in the same season. Shane Watson (2008 with RR), Adam Gilchrist (2009 with DC), and Sunil Narine (2012 with KKR) were the three players to accomplish this feat.

Notably, Watson and Narine won the Man of the Series award in their first IPL season itself. While every player was making his debut in the 2008 season, Sunil Narine arrived in the IPL ahead of the 2012 season.

Sachin Tendulkar and Chris Gayle are the only two cricketers to win the IPL Orange Cap and the Man of the Series award in the same edition of IPL. Later, Virat Kohli accomplished this feat in 2016 by winning the Orange Cap and the MVP award.

Who has won the IPL Man of the Series the most number of times?

No player in IPL history could win the Man of the Series award more than one time. Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Narine, Shane Watson, Chris Gayle, and Adam Gilchrist won the trophy once in their careers.

Who won the Man of the Series in IPL 2020?

As mentioned ahead, the last Man of the Series award was given in 2012. The Most Valuable Player of the Season award was on offer in 2020, and Rajasthan Royals’ all-rounder Jofra Archer won that prize.
