IPL Purple Cap Winners

However, at the end of a season, only one bowler wins the Purple Cap. Here we will list all the Purple Cap winners in IPL history:


2008 - Sohail Tanvir


Sohail Tanvir won IPL Purple Cap in the first ever season. His 22 wickets in 11 matches helped the Rajasthan Royals become champions.


2009 - RP Singh


In 2009 also, the Purple Cap winner’s team won the IPL championship. Deccan Chargers’ left-arm pacer RP Singh won Purple Cap by taking 23 wickets in 16 games at an economy rate of 6.98.


2010 - Pragyan Ojha


Deccan Chargers’ left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha was the first spin bowler to win the Purple Cap. Ojha scalped 21 wickets in 16 games and won the award.


2011 - Lasith Malinga


Legendary Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga was the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2011. Playing for Mumbai Indians, Malinga picked up 28 wickets, including a five-wicket haul.


2012 - Morne Morkel


Delhi Daredevils’ South African pacer Morne Morkel took the Purple Cap home in 2012. Morkel picked up 25 wickets in 16 games.


2013 - Dwayne Bravo


Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Dwayne Bravo holds the record for the most wickets in one IPL season. Bravo picked up 32 wickets in 18 matches at a strike rate of 11.7.


2014 - Mohit Sharma


Another Chennai Super Kings pacer to win the Purple Cap was Mohit Sharma. The right-arm fast-medium bowler took 23 wickets in 16 matches of IPL 2014.


2015 - Dwayne Bravo


Dwayne Bravo became the first player to win 2 Purple Cap awards in 2015. The right-arm pacer finished IPL 2015 with 26 wickets to his name at a strike rate of 12.


2016 - Bhuvneshwar Kumar


Bhuvneshwar Kumar helped Sunrisers Hyderabad win the IPL trophy in 2016 by picking up 23 wickets. The Indian fast bowler took one four-wicket haul in the 2016 season.


2017 - Bhuvneshwar Kumar


Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the first bowler to win back-to-back Purple Caps in 2017. The Sunrisers Hyderabad star retained the Purple Cap by picking up 26 wickets in 14 matches.


2018 - Andrew Tye


It took eleven seasons for an Australian player to win the Purple Cap. Andrew Tye won the award by scalping 24 wickets in 14 matches for the Kings XI Punjab in 2018.


2019 - Imran Tahir


Imran Tahir scalped 26 wickets in 17 matches and topped the Purple Cap leaderboard in 2019. The Chennai Super Kings leg-spinner had an economy rate of 6.69 that season.


2020 - Kagiso Rabada


Kagiso Rabada was the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2020. The right-arm pacer picked up a total of 30 wickets in 17 matches for the Delhi Capitals.


2021 - Harshal Patel


Harshal Patel is the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2021. The right-arm pacer picked up a total of 32 wickets in 15 matches for the Royal challengers Bangalore.
